Laser Rot is a more serious problem. Laser Rot is when the aluminum layer of the Laserdisc begins to oxidize. This changes the reflectivity of the disc. Laser Rot manifests itself as many colored lines on the screen. Contrary to the name, Laser Rot is not caused by the laser. Laserdiscs are doubled sided.

Use the color bar pattern on the Pioneer GGV 8" Reference Laserdisc (which can still be purchased new from the Pioneer Parts website!) to calibrate your capture card prior to capturing. You otherwise run the risk of unnecessary clipping and this is particularly important if you're capturing in 8-bit because once the data is gone, it's gone.

As you browse LaserDisc eBay listings, there are many Laser Discs imported from Japan. Japan uses the same NTSC formatting as North American discs so the discs will play fine on any LaserDisc player. Many of the Japanese discs also include English audio versions of the movie so the movie presents no differences with a purchase.

LaserDisc (abbreviated as LD) is a home video format and the first commercial optical disc storage medium, initially licensed, sold and marketed as MCA DiscoVision in the United States in Although the format was capable of offering higher-quality video and audio than its consumer rivals, VHS and Betamax videotape, LaserDisc never managed to gain widespread use in North America, largely.

Jul 29,  · a few racks of laserdisc titles against one wall and stereo and video equipment which was their main focus. I do not recall them having any pre-recorded vhs tapes although I think they carried blank tapes. I remember when I bought my first LD player, which was a Sylvania top-loading LD.
