Apr 17,  · All play well throughout the odd minutes of this album with the Perkins piece a standout track. Hope’s quirky pianistics show that he was unique among keyboard players. Land excels as a ballad player on You Don’t Know. A good but unexceptional programme, this; if it was a single CD it would rate about three stars.

Harold de Vance Land (December 18, – July 27, ) was an American hard bop and post-bop tenor saxophonist. Land developed his hard bop playing with the Max Roach/Clifford Brown band into a personal, modern style. His tone was strong and emotional, yet displayed a certain fragility that made him easy to recognize.

Harold in the Land of Jazz (also released as Grooveyard) is the debut album by saxophonist Harold Land recorded in and released on the Contemporary label. The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 4½ stars and stated: "His (Harold Land) tone is cooler and softer than it would become later on, but it was already pretty distinctive".
